    Two gentlemen from Finland, Pete Makela (38) and Pete Vourenmaa (42), are going to attempt to cross Greenland from south to north. They will be doing so with the help of powerkites.

    Between 12th April and 5th May, a handicapped adventurer and two French students will strap on their cross-country skis and cover 200 km about a thousand kilometres away from the North Pole. They will attempt to scale Newtontoppen, a peak situated to the north-east of Longyearbyen, the capital of Spitsbergen.

    This spring, the British adventurer Ben Saunders will be trying to break the speed record on the traditional Ward Hunt-North Pole route. He's hoping that the feat will take no more than thirty days.

    In March 2008, six emerging leaders, ages 21–28 from four countries, including the US, Norway, Great Britain and Canada, will join Will Steger on a 1,400 mile dogsled expedition across Ellesmere Island, in collaboration with National Geographic Society, the International Polar Year, Extreme Ice Survey and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

    Hannah McKeand has set herself the goal of becoming the first woman to succeed in covering the route between Ward Hunt and the North Pole (415 nautical miles) solo. The plucky Briton has also decided to attempt her trek entirely unaided with no external re-supplies.

  • Vanco Arctic Survey

    Next spring, the Vanco Arctic Survey Team consisting of the renowned british explorer and guide Pen Hadow, the equally famous polar explorer Ann Daniels and the photographer Martin Hartley, will be setting out on a 120-day crossing of the Arctic pack-ice, covering 2000 km. They will leave in February 2008 from Point Barrow in Alaska and aim to reach the North Pole by June.

    The adventurer, writer and film producer Jon Bowermaster is setting out to uncover what happened in March 2002 when a huge section of the Larsen Ice Shelf, the size of Luxembourg, gradually broke away from the eastern coast of the Antarctic Peninsula.

    Two young adventurers, the British Cameron Hudson and the American John Huston, are going to attempt the traditional Hercules Inlet - South Pole trek. They want to help the visually impaired by supporting various associations such as the 'Guide Dogs for the Blind', the 'International Glaucoma Association (IGA)' and the 'Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB)'
