After making his first attempt in 2008, the Italian Michele Portrandolfo is again setting out to complete the classic route from Ward Hunt to the North Pole -solo and without any outside assistance.

Potrandolfo will be embarking on his solo quest from Ward Hunt on Ellesmere Island in the Far North of Canada. He hopes to complete his trek in about sixty days and his presentation for the expedition demonstrates his definite attraction for pure, unadulterated physical effort.

For example, Michele has decided not to weigh himself down with traction kites or other technology-based aids that might otherwise sully the philosophy of purity behind his trip. First and foremost he is seeking to be just himself one man against the immensity of the sea-ice, fighting against the elements and facing his fate alone.

Michele Portrandolfo already has several polar journeys to his credit, including reaching the magnetic North Pole and making a full crossing of Greenland in 2000. Details of his various expeditions are available on his webpage.
