British Rory Sweet (37), Henry Cookson (29), Rupert Longsden (31) and their guide Paul Landry (51), will depart from the Russian scientific base Novolazarevskaya to try to reach the pole of Inacessiblitiy (the exact center of the continent and the furthest point from the coast).

The pole of Inacessiblitiy has only been reached previously a handful of times, the first being in 1958 by a two year long Soviet expedition using a convoy of 35 tonnes tracked vehicles. No one has previously attempted to reach the POI by non-mechanical means.

To cover the 1800 Km of the trip, the team will be using a combination of traditional man hauling and kite skiing.

They made it ! The team reached the POI - the centre Antarctica - at 17.30 gmt on the 19th Jan. There, they were welcomed by a shoulder bust of Lenin larger than life size. Quite surreal !
