New Zealanders Kevin Biggar (37) and Jamie Fitzgerald (26) aim to ski from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole and back without any resupplies. If they succeed, it would be the first time such a trip has been done without airdrops or resupplying at the Pole.

Kevin and Jamie do not have any Polar experience but are used to teamwork: they won the Trans-Atlantic Rowing Race in 2003.

Both Kiwis arrived at the South Pole but their return to the coast base camp using kites had to be cancelled. Jamie suffered a hamstring injury on the way to the Pole (he had already walked with it for 600 Km) and, after receiving medical advice, the only option available to the Kiwi expedition is to go back by plane to the Patriot Hills base camp.
