Norway's Cecilie Skog and the American Ryan Waters will be setting out from Berkner Island in an attempt to reach the South Pole. And continue beyond, time and weather permitting.

An enthusiast of the great outdoors and high mountains -especially the peaks in the Andes-, Ryan Waters has a solid background as a professional expedition guide in the four corners of the world. He has already been to Everest on three occasions, succeeding in reaching the peak twice, once from the South Col on the Nepal side, the other taking the long climb of the North Col, from Tibet. Currently, Waters runs Mountain Professionals, a company specialising in guiding professional expeditions all over the globe.

Cecilie Skog is the only woman in the world to have reached the 7 summits and the two poles. Born on 8th August 1974 at Alesund in Norway, she has been a nurse and mountain guide since 1995. Cecilie began mountaineering and ice-climbing at the age of 20.

Together, Waters and Skog will be attempting to trek from Berkner Island to the South Pole without outside assistance and without being resupplied. If time allows and the weather is favourable, they will continue their crossing by attempting to reach the Transantarctic Mountains.
