Let me try again?

Published on 10.01.2008 - Opération Pole Sud

Charles Hedrich was evacuated to Patriot Hills on Thursday 27th December and was already back in Paris by New Year's Day.

The weather has finally improved in this part of the world and ALE flights back to South America have resumed recently and continue to operate.

It was this break in the weather that enabled Charles Hedrich to catch a succession of flights, first from Patriot Hills to Punta Arenas and then on to Santiago, before landing home in Paris on the evening of 1st January. One detail: Hedrich had thought he would be flying over Cape Horn at the same time as Francis Joyon was skimming across the water in his multi-hulled boat. But Joyon had in fact been delayed and only sailed round the Cape last Saturday.

Since his return to France, Hedrich has resumed skiing, pulling on his instructor's uniform and gracing the slopes of Megève.

All of which begs the question: will he try for his speed record in the Antarctic again? The answer is not yet known, but on the website it is suggested that had he not become ill (urinary tract infection), he would have succeeded.
