“We’re Up To Speed…”

Published on 14.12.2009 - To the South Pole and beyond…

The Cecilie Skog/Ryan Waters pair is continuing on its path towards the South Pole. Despite traditional obstacles such as white-outs or sastrugi fields.

The press releases from the "To the South Pole And Beyond" Expedition are always so laconic and irregular. We have learnt only during these last few days that Cecilie and Ryan have experienced several days of white-out and that from time to time they have to negotiate sastrugi fields, which seem to be damaging their skis. They repair the skins in the evening.

On 10 December, they were not content because in the evening the GPS indicated that they had "only" done 22 kilometres that day. But that was because of the sastrugi fields. In any event, 22 kilometres seemed too few for them. The following day, they clocked up 30.3 kilometres, their best distance since they started.
